I like starting some of my paintings with alcohol ink.  The lack of control of the medium is both a good thing and a challenging thing.  But it provides a brilliant watercolor effect that I can't get with traditional paint.  I will then paint over parts of it with acrylic paint.  No matter what you paint over this ink, it will bleed through at least somewhat, which provides some really interesting features.
