"Urban Chick"

"Urban Chick" is from my new series "American Girl: Celebrating Female Individuality and Spirit". Each painting in this series highlights beautiful girls in a colorful way. I love everything that is feminine. I surround myself with strong females that also have great humor and give lots of love. They fill my life with so much joy. 

For my pop art paintings, I start with a reference photo. Sometimes celebrities. My goal isn't really to make them look exactly like the reference. It's mostly for the pose and experimenting to create something colorful with my computer and tablet. Once I've created a the colorful image digitally, it gives me a road map of what colors work best for that image and where to put the colors. Then I draw my image on the canvas and start painting. I sometimes have to revise my colors to be more suitable for a painting since the computer colors are much more brilliant.
